Spike Island is an arts charity based in Bristol and forms a crucial cornerstone of the city’s cultural scene. The organisation operates out of the former Brooke Bond Tea Factory on Bristol’s harbourside - a distinctive mid-century industrial facility and much-loved local landmark. As well as gallery spaces that hold Turner Prize-winning exhibitions, the site is home to over 70 artists, designers, makers and creative businesses.

Connolly Wellingham have been appointed by Spike Island to advise on the architectural coordination of their Decarbonisation Project. We will be working closely with our friends at Max Fordham environmental engineers to assess the existing condition of the 1960s industrial structure, and to advise on a ‘fabric first’ retrofit programme to reduce energy use, improve efficiency and make the site more comfortable for its multiple uses and users.

It’s a real privilege to be working with such an important arts organisation – and one that we have been proud to call our home for the last five years.
