The Natural History Museum is a Grade I listed building completed in 1881 in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, designed by Sir Alfred Waterhouse and considered to be a masterpiece of Victorian civic architecture. As well as housing a collection of approximately 80 million artefacts, the museum is also an international centre of research into taxonomy and conservation of the natural environment.

Connolly Wellingham have been appointed by the Museum to lead a multidisciplinary design team in the completion of a feasibility study to assess refurbishment options for one of their key gallery spaces. The appointment was made following CWa’s invitation to join a hand-selected shortlist of practices bidding for the prestigious project. The scheme will build upon the success of recent phases of refurbishment, including the Hintze Hall in 2018, and support the museum in the progression toward the delivery of their 2031 vision.

Pre-Application liaison began with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in summer 2022.
